German Lessons

A few weeks ago I decided to bite the bullet and take some formal German lessons in preparation for my forthcoming stint in Munich. I'm really enjoying them, and they're certainly helping jog my memory of GCSE German circa '05. I have also realised how difficult I used to find and still pretty much am.

Oh wells. Its better to be charmingly incorrect than plain ignorant.

Wish me luck.

It's More Fun in the Philippines

I look at these pictures and laugh and become nostalgic, because it has been a while since I have been back. Above are a few of my favorites.

The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) at the beggining of 2012 released 'It's more fun in the Philippines' and encouraged people to take part allowing them to create their own ad, using personal pictures.

It's amazing and has caught on rapidly. Whoever came up with the idea well done them- Philippines tends to get overlooked in the general 'trip to Asia' and I think that this new campaign will finally bring it some light.

Philippines is an amazingly beautiful place (yes I am biased) and I hope that others will travel there to see the beauty and wonders.

I am a proud Graphic Designer who desperately wishes to be apart of this campaign, but most of all-

I am a proud Filipina.

On a brighter note...

Clicking on 'I'm feeling lucky' has brought me to this doozy.

One of those nights..

It's currently 2.35am and I cannot sleep. I'm having one of those nights where my brain is buzzing about a thousand things, and for the life of me I can't shut down and fall asleep. So I do what most people do and open my laptop to do something productive whilst I am in this moment of insanity and hope that at some point I will begin to feel sleepy.

Things I am currently thinking about..

*My DPS year...have I really done enough?

*My looming dissertation

*Living in a new city&country

Shrove Tuesday

Shrove Tuesday has just passed us, but most of us spent it gorging on pancakes (I had Chinese pancakes this year).

Christopher Eales has depicted to what he imagines a Shrove to be like, and quite well I think.

Obviously Shrove's aren't an animal, but means to present oneself to a priest to make a confession. I guess we all learn something everyday.

Information is Beautiful

I cannot believe I missed the chance to apply to be an intern for David McCandless!!! aarrrghhh...I was so upset when I saw that they had advertised and then closed them way before I had even thought to check it!! I think the photo correctly displays the upsetness/horror on my face at the moment I found out.

Oh wells, next time hey? I've written and sent an a portfolio and cover letter to express my interest in hope that they'll think of me for a future opportunity. Fingers crossed!

Savouring the moment

Surreal but strangely interesting Photos of shrink wrapped people by Japanese photographer Hal.

There are always times when I think I'd really like to have this moment for ever. (yes I know that's cheesy). Shrinkwrap has never come to mind though.

Beautiful Nonsense

Whilst completing my internship at Provokateur, I designed a editorial piece for the Library section on their new website. It is now officially published and available to download!

My German Adventure!

Today I recieved the final details of my new internship in Germany, (Bayern) Munich which will officially begin in April 2012.

I've known since January that I will be interning in Munich, but now that all the details are being finalised, its really sinking in that I will be moving to another country for 6 months of my life to experiece something new and exciting.

I have been to Germany before, (Dusseldorf) but Bayern is very different compared to the rest of Germany, it's how the world views stereotypical Germans to look/sound/act like, and i'm really excited to have it as a part of my life.

I guess its time to start packing...

Are Humans Carbon Based?

This particular question came up at my last placement, and sparked an interest within me. I hope to create an infographic explaining how exactly humans are partly based on carbon.

p.s. the answer is yes..well sort of

Its official boys and girls!

DPS Assessment

For this week I've decided to get a jump start on my DPS Assessment piece. It's basically an in depth reflection as to how I've spent my DPS year. Its due in June, but I'll be in Germany, so hopefully If I can get most of the text done, I can worry about the design when I'm in Germany.

One thing I am worried about is getting the product printed. Here in London I know where I can get the good materials, I know a reliable printers. But I don't know any reprographics places or art supply stores...

Learning German

I have extremely basic German skills, its pretty much what I remember from high school GCSE German. Although I have picked up phrases and words since then, but I really feel like i should brush up on my Deutsch skills before I get to Munich. I know everyone there will be able to speak English and that I'd be fine even if I had zero German skills, but that isn't really the point now is it...

Grüß Gott

In exactly 6 weeks and 5 days I will be moving to Munich, Germany for 6 months!! Excited is not even the word anymore. It has taken a while to really sink in, and now that it has a goofy grin adorns my face and slight panic has set it due to the fact I have to pack 6 months work of my crap into a 20kg suitcase and a hand carry -ridiculous much?

Also have I mentioned that this will be the first time I'll be living away from home?...

Spare Time

I have two months to kill/prepare before my final internship of my DPS year. So far I have spent a few days in bed and a few days updating my website and portfolio. Now I'm bored. So I've decided to get those creative juices flowing and do some competitions before I leave for the Germany.

I haven't given myself a lot of time to do these competitions, seeing as One competition ends in just over a week and the next March 9, I think I better step on it.

Bang said the gun.

Fond Memories

My last internship was at Provokateur. I really enjoyed it, and learned a lot. The studio felt more like a group of friends who could flip the switch between fun and serious with ease. I felt like I really got a feel as to what working in a studio would be like.

I'm so pleased that I have some work to show form the fantastic time I had working as an intern at Provokateur. I really like that the illustrations I designed have made it onto their website (with some style changes). To see more of my work I produced with Provokateur, see my website.

I hope to work with them again.
Watch this space.

Fruits of my Labour

Today I finally finished re-designing my DK project. Huzzah! I've disliked the design of this project for a very very long time, and with some free time I've had time to re-jig it and have something to be proud of. See more of this project on my website.

Redesigining

This week I have been redesigning my website and some old projects. I've been meaning to get around to doing this for ages, and I'm really happy I finally have time!
Here's the update so far!
